Yesterday there was a large online protest against two congressional bills that critics claim would be an overreach of power by the government. The Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, and the Protect Intellectual Property Act, also known as PIPA, would empower companies to have web sites shut down without proving copyright infringement accusations in a court of law. Websites such as Reddit and Wikipedia have expressed their opposition to the bill, saying it will kill jobs, stunt innovation, and give the federal government unlimited power.
