Yesterday I attended a sister circle of love to support a friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Dozens of women attended- some I knew and some I didn’t but we all shared a friendship or relationship with our friend.

Our friend’s nickname is “Tator”, as in dictator.  She’s a strong woman who doesn’t ask for help.  You know the kind- Ms. Superwoman. The kind of woman that is always there for other people can run a business with a strong competent hand but can’t be vulnerable enough to let other people help her.

The Sister Circle said we’re going to be here for you whether you like it or not. When you need to go to the doctor, when you need food, when your children need their hair brushed, when you need medication picked up or throw up cleaned up- we will be there for you.

It was so heartwarming to know that women could gather and love each other just because.

That being said- no more excuses.  If you haven’t had a mammogram this year, make an appointment.  If you’re afraid, tell someone and take a friend. If you think you’re too busy, well, you’ll have plenty of time to rest when you’re dead.

It’s time to take care of yourself.  Follow the American Cancer Society link and learn more about self examinations and more.
