Closing arguments in the trial of Michael Carey and Gescard Isnora, two New York Police officers charged in the shooting death of Sean Bell, are expected Wednesday.
The officers, accused of violating departmental guidelines, claimed they were defending their own safety when they shot Bell outside a Queens strip club in 2006. If convicted, both officers stand to lose their jobs.
For the first time, lawyers for the NYPD have called the shooting “unjustified.”
Isnora was previously acquitted of criminal charges, but Carey never faced criminal charges.
