If you watched the Tea Party debate Monday, you probably saw Michelle Bachmann condemning Texas Governor Rick Perry’s ties to special interests like the Merck corporation. Specifically, she was condemning his 2007 executive order of requiring Texas teenage girls to take Gardisil, an HPV vaccination made by Merck.
After the debate, Bachmann went on Fox News to give her post-debate remarks. When she was interviewed, she claimed that a woman came up to her, saying that Gardisil causes mental retardation. This claim is interesting because typically “mental retardation” takes place before a mother births her child. Bachmann thought that eleven or twelve year olds can get it through a vaccine.
