Patricia Neal’s life story is one of dramatic triumph over adversity in both career and medical health. As the theatre and film worlds both mourn the loss of a classic star, a familiar face in entertainment and a legendary personality to accompany, the world at large has seen Neal overcome several strokes and continue honing her craft as an Academy Award winner.

Best known for her role as Alma in “Hud,” Neal, 84, portrayed a housekeeper who refused to fall for Paul Newman’s character’s witty charm. Later in her career, Neal suffered back to back strokes which ultimately prevented her from having an ability to speak or walk. Shortly thereafter, Neal made her victorious return to the big screen only to snatch up another Oscar nomination for the film “The Subject Was Roses.” Again, she was a classic superstar whom many of us remember for her elegance and tenacity. Our thoughts and prayers are with Patricia Neal’s family today.

Patricia Neal’s apparent cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Check out the special photo gallery below sharing a few snap shots of the Tony and Oscar-winning actress. For more on the life and star-studded career of Patricia Neal, you’ll find complete details at CNN.com today.
