If you’ve ever tuned into ABC’s show, The Bachelor, you have to wonder why in 16 seasons there hasn’t been one Black man featured as the main star — the bachelor.

With the recent announcement that the last edition’s runner up will now be the Bachelor, Zerlina Maxwell of TheGrio wonders if there will ever be a change.

It’s not only the bachelors that are white but the majority of contestants competing for the bachelor’s heart are also white. This then becomes a repeated cycle because the runner up of one show almost always becomes the new Bachelor or Bachelorette in the next season of the related show.
