NEW YORK – Afrika Owes, the elite private school student arrested for ferrying guns for a New York City drug gang, pleaded guilty on four counts of conspiracy and weapons possession Thursday in a Manhattan court.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin was lenient in his sentencing of Owes, who turned herself in on June 28. She is expected to be released in September in time to finish her senior year of high school.

“I am here to take responsibility for the actions that have occurred,” she said. “I know it was against the law.”
