Apparently the Republican National Committee is not phased by the embarassing spectacle that is conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart. They have invited him to headline a fundraiser for the GOP next month with RNC Chairman Michael Steele. Andrew Breitbart is the man who edited the videotape of Shirley Sherrod giving a speech at an NAACP event. The speech was actually demonstrating how Sherrod had overcome her prejudice by helping a white farmer and his wife save their farm, but in the Breitbart version she was cast as a discrimatory bigot who refused to help the couple. After much furor over the tape, Sherrod was fired from her position with the U.S.D.A. Once the entire tape was brought to light, the Obama administration was embarassed by their rush to judgement based on the edited version of the video.
The RNC apparently doesn’t share in the Obama administration’s embarassment over the event because Mr. Breitbart was invited to host a donor retreat in Beverly Hills that starts at $1000 and go up to $60,800 for a couple. The event, scheduled for Aug. 12, will be to update donors on the party’s plans for the midterm elections.
