New for 2011, we welcome Gayle King, hostess of her own national radio and newly developed television show “The Gayle King Show” to 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz premiering Monday, January 10th live on the air beginning at 5:00PM EST and also on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) at 10:00AM EST.

Gayle King currently serves as editor-at-large of O, The Oprah Magazine and is proud to bring to us “The Gayle King Show” which launched back in 2006 on XM Radio, and subsequently distributed on broadcast radio via Westwood One Radio Network and Harpo Studios. The highly entertaining and informative show promises to be a winner.

Besides being Oprah’s best friend, King makes occasional appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America and Morning Joe. King is a three-time Emmy® Award-winning newscaster, anchoring 18 years for a local CBS affiliate in Hartford, Connecticut. Her extensive media experience led her to launch “The Gayle King Show,” a multi-dimensional platform for in-depth, on-air discussion covering topics from current events and cultural trends to politics and more. In 2008, King won the American Women in Radio & Television Gracie Award® for Outstanding Radio Talk Show and the Individual Achievement Award for Host – Entertainment/Information in 2010. For the last decade, 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz has quickly become a staple in the community and a vital source for news that impacts us all. After two years of blending news talk with inspirational music and other special programming initiatives for the city of Cincinnati, we’ve decided to drop our gospel music playlists from the airwaves in an effort to return to the African-American talk format that successfully launched our station many years ago.

To those of you who loved the combination of community and inspirational formats, we sincerely thank you for your years of support and dedication to 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz. Please continue to support your favorite music and artists, but also help us lead the way in each of our future endeavors. We would now like to officially offer the following changes and new additions to our 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz programming schedule effective beginning fall 2010.

The family of Ross Love will hold private services today, Monday, August 16th. General public services will include a community celebration of the life of Ross Love on this week – Wednesday, August 18th at Crossroads Community church beginning at 5:00PM located at 3500 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45209.

Floral arrangement, dedications and donations may be delivered to the United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Cards and other condolences can be sent to Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home located at 11400 Winton Road, Forest Park, Ohio 45240.

Ross Love was not only an entrepreneur but a servant to the community he felt needed a leader the most. At the time of his death, Love was the CEO and owner of Blue Chip Enterprises, a company which invests in and provides guidance to African-American owned start-ups.

He got his start at Procter & Gamble before rising to the company’s upper echelons as vice president of marketing. After leaving the company, Love and a team of business partners joined forces to purchase Cincinnati’s most popular black radio station- 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz.

Over the next few years, Love was able to buy more radio stations in the midwest through his Blue Chip Broadcasting company. Love’s broadcasting company then became the largest black-owned radio broadcast company in the country at the time.

Ross Love died at an area hospital earlier this morning according to statements from friend and former business partner, former Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Details will be highlighted soon.

Here’s a look at what a few station representatives, former business acquaintances and other familiar names had to say in remembrance of Ross Love’s career, commitment to the community and his years of servitude toward 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz.

I was devastated to hear of the passing of Mr. Ross Love. There is so much I could say. He was a visionary and he allowed me to be a part of his for 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz. Mr. Love afforded me and so many others opportunities in this community. He trusted me to help build the radio station into an instrument for community outreach and a voice for an underserved population in Cincinnati eager for more information about the African American community. With his guidance and blessing, we collected donations for the New Orleans Relief Effort and took buses full of those donations directly to those in need. Even during the 2001 disturbance after the death of Timothy Thomas, we had almost 24 hours of live coverage of eyewitness reports from citizens in our community and different perspectives.
I have countless stories that could fill volumes of what he was able to accomplish in this community including his involvement with CAN (Community Action Now). There would still not be enough words to describe what he meant to this community. He will be missed. – Jeri Tolliver, 1230AM WDBZ The Buzz, Promotions Director

Through years of servitude and a few sparks along the way, Lincoln Ware’s insight has become unmatched throughout the city. Featuring tons of gospel related events, the I Hear Music in the Air 2010 weekend concludes on Sunday, May 30th with the first ever Legends Ball. The Westin Hotel will accommodate guests from all over the city and beyond and give honor to this year’s recipients: Sesh Communications, The Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Minister Natalie Brooks, Rev. H.L. Harvey and of course, our own Lincoln Ware.

In addition to receiving his award, Lincoln Ware will be amongst some of the greatest in local and national personalities. The evening’s keynote speaker will be Pastor Damon Lynch, Jr. and the I Hear Music in the Air 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to gospel music icons The Clark Sisters. Sounds like a great time, right?

We all know Lincoln Ware is notorious for igniting heated debates and providing continuous entertainment for listeners to enjoy, but during this weekend’s Legends Ball, people will get a chance to see what it feels like to be celebrated for your work, only this time through Lincoln’s eyes.
