Chess, Inner Peace And Better Life Planning

More than ever, this planet is moving at a tremendous speed with constantly evolving technologies, political systems, social systems and economies. Even the way art is made, distributed, and sold is also in transition.

It’s a beautiful time to be alive and there are amazing opportunities to learn from and grow through all around us. But without a clear goal, you might find yourself overwhelmed. By it all and before you finish smiling, it’s over. Life really moves that fast.

Part of it is the intensity of the unstable economy and our broken educational system. It can leave you feeling unprepared at best and extremely stressed and depressed at worst. Negative thoughts can be crippling to the mind, body, and spirit. Many times negative thoughts are fed to us from our family, friends and the media. Despite meaning well, it’s common that those who love us mislead us. Not from a place of hate. More often than not, it’s just a transfer of fear that they’ve carried and put onto you.

Regardless of their intention these negative thoughts can invade your head like a virus and alter the normal function of your brain. Your sense of self worth and ability become distorted. Soon bad habits and negative affirmations lead you to assured failure and unhappiness.

I often find solace in playing chess. I’m not an incredibly good player. But, I noticed a pattern of losing when I played too passive. When I let my opponent dictate the terms of battle, I lose. My experience was no different when I was on the mat in jiu jitsu. Inactivity is a virus of the mind.

To free yourself of this virus you must first decide that your mind, body, and soul are sacred. The word sacred comes from a Latin root word sacrare mean “to devote”. One of the definitions of sacred is “properly immune from violence, interference etc. as a person”. After you recognize your inherent sacred nature, you quickly understand that anything sacred is worthy of defending. The easiest way to defend yourself against any threat (physical, mental, economic, etc.) is to keep yourself consistently in tune with the true current state of the world. You need to be clear on your place in it and where you are headed.

After many years of living a very distracted life, I recently developed a personal methodology to combat consistent distractions. I write is as 3PA > 1NT. Meaning three positive actions are greater than one negative thought!

The next time you find your mind idle on the couch or in front of the TV and a negative thought enters your mind you must first get up (if you are lying down, sit up, if you were sitting stand and if you were standing sit and get grounded). Change your physical posture as you adjust your mind. No thought is stronger than action taken. Now we begin.

Example #1 : If you are worried about the big test, take three positive actions against that fear. Read 3 pages on the subject that were giving you the most trouble. Or you could read one page, look up an article on the subject online and call a mentor to ask a specific question you lack clarity on.

Example #2: If you feel out of shape when you look yourself in the mirror, then right there drop and do ten push ups (or as many as you can do) ten sit ups and ten minutes on the jump rope. Call a friend who has gotten fit and ask if they have any suggestions on how you can begin.

Example #3: If you want a new job, go sign up at 3 new sites online or dig deeper on the sites you prefer and send no less than three resumes out.

Those are the simple examples I can give but the equations are applicable to many more situations. To get started, write 3PA > 1NT in big letters on a piece of binder paper and place it on your favorite mirror, on your fridge, or make it your screen saver. Say the equation and its meaning when you look at it. As you do that, you’ll begin to slowly implement it more and more when obstacles clutter your path.

One of the best things about this method is that you will quickly learn how little effort it takes to take three positive actions. In no time at all you will be taking six, ten and twelve actions to breakthrough to the next level. Using the 3PA > 1NT will give you a much greater sense of peace in your personal, scholastic and professional world. You will sleep better and worry less because you will make taking action your core instinct.

In chess playing defense too long is always fatal. At some point you must commit to moving forward or die exhausted from reactive moves dictated by outside forces. Make this the year you take control of the wheel through action.

In order to ensure its full impact, you must use the 3PA > 1NT for 21 days straight. Studies show it takes 21 days for a habit to set into your mind. Allow this to become a part of your daily mental regimen and you will be unstoppable in any arena you walk. It worked for me. I hope it works for you!

Ralph Macchio is the latest contestant to be eliminated in fourth place this week on Dancing with the Stars, but although he didn’t make the final showdown, he seems to have much to be thankful for. Macchio thanked everyone involved in his success on the show up until the elimination and even gave a heartfelt response concerning his teammate Karina Smirnoff.

The dancing partners share what Macchio expressed as an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Macchio told the world and his teammate just how much her heart, talent, class and integrity have all inspired him in so many ways. Find out what else he had to say during the big elimination below.

As you embrace adulthood, you come to realize what your parents mean. You look at their lives and study the ways they taught you. You find yourself copying their actions and motions. As they age, become ill and die we are left knowing that part of them loves on in us. It may be in the way we walk or laugh. It may be in the way we cook or think. One can only hope that you learned something for their lives. Of course Parents are not perfect. Some of us may have never even known our parents. We still have a hand in our lives that gave us support, or guidance. This prayer is for them too.

“Lord, I surrender to you my family. Lord Jesus, I pray for my parents. Though you blessed them abundantly, today they are in need of your help. Give my parents joy and strength. Fill them with your strengthening presence. Lord, give them real thirst and hunger for the Holy Spirit and for the Word of God. Give them health in spirit, soul and body.

Even though they may feel that all the trouble they took for their children are being wasted, help them to see the great reward waiting for them in Heaven. Help my parents to forgive themselves and forgive everyone else.

Even though as parents they may have failed to fulfil their duites, Lord, set them free from sadness and sorrow, regrets and sense of guilt. Jesus fill them with your Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus. Amen”

It’s Birthing Time

“Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God.’”

What greater thing is there than nurturing and giving life? Ask a mother who nurtured a child for nine months and then spent whatever number of hours, if not days, in pain to push the baby into the world. Not an easy task…in that moment she cannot imagine how she will be able to push an 8-pound baby out of her.

To her it is virtually impossible to visualize. But, she trusts the doctors and takes their word that it is possible and will happen. So, she endures the pain and pushes until the baby is born. Once that child is in her arms…the nine months of nurturing and hours of labor pain is a long forgotten memory. The blessing is in her arms and quickly captivates her attention.

Well, we are all walking around pregnant…yes….we are pregnant, preparing to birth blessings God has placed in us and promised for us. Although we can’t visibly see our pregnancy, the blessing is growing inside of us none the less….its kicking us so much that we can’t sleep at night. It is growing stronger and soon it’s “birth” date will arrive. Soon we feel the leap in our belly and begin to feel or recognize the signs that our blessing is coming.

But, can we imagine it really happening. We look at our circumstance, the environment and can’t see a blessing coming into this space. You know what I mean…our challenges, setbacks, heartbreak, pain, lack, loss, etc. How is a blessing going to come into this situation?

Don’t you realize that that’s actually your labor pain? Just like a woman’s labor pain serves as an indication that the baby is about to be birthed, your personal labor pain serves as sign that your blessing is about to be birthed. The greater the pain, the closer you are to giving birth to your blessing.

God wants us to not look at our situation and see the impossible. He wants us to trust Him and have faith that what seems impossible to man is possible for Him. We must believe that nothing is too hard for God. Believe that God is not a man that He should lie. If He has promised it, then it will come to pass. So, start to P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens). Soon, you will be holding your blessing and all the labor pain will be a distant memory.

Hearing His Voice & Trusting His Promises

God whispers. God roars. He speaks directly. He speaks indirectly. Even when it seems like He isn’t saying anything; it’s in His silence that much is said. What we must do is make sure we are in tune with Him at all times, so we will understand Him regardless of the form of communication He chooses to use in a particular moment. And, then act in agreement with what He says and when He says it.

How do we ensure we are getting a clear signal? What do we have to do to make sure we are confident in knowing it is His voice we are hearing? How do we go about sharpening our discerning spirit? These are great questions. The answer is through daily, deliberate and dedicated devotional time with Him. It can be in the morning, in the afternoon or in the evening, but it must happen. And, it must be sincere.

For God to speak to us we must first recognize His voice and He must see that we desire to hear His voice. When Eli told Samuel that it was actually the Lord calling him, on the fourth attempt Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (I Samuel 3:10). We have to calm down the external and internal chatter, confusion and distraction. We must get to a place of total spiritual, mental and emotional surrender in order for us to first recognize His voice above all others and then clearly hear what God has to say to us.

I don’t know about you, sometimes, even though I have heard from God my actions contradict my agreement with God. And, it is often done out of my impatience, fear and frustration revealing my spiritual immaturity and showing God that I am not ready for what He has next. A perfect Biblical example/lesson learned moment is when Moses struck the rock when God said to speak to it, preventing him from entering into the Promise Land; after being obedient for over 40 years. He did it out of the frustration he felt from constantly seeing and hearing the wavering, flip/flop faith displayed by the Israelites (Numbers 20).

See learned lessons don’t always have to be from first-hand experience. We can be a witness to someone else’s mistake to learn the lesson. The Bible is full of such examples where God whispered or roared. And, Moses, Sarah & Abraham and others show us what happens when frustration, impatience and disobedience take the place of faith, trust and obedience. Because of their testimony, we CAN stand strong underneath the challenges, delays and detours; because we already know the outcome…God keeps His promises…ALWAYS!

I have now come to a place where God is whispering to me and roaring at me that it is time to go to the next level in my faith walk. And, Moses’ mistake is a reminder of what not to do, so I might enter my Promise Land here on earth.

So, I walk in faith and live in love. Watching and waiting with great anticipation not allowing my current circumstance to distract me from recognizing God’s voice, hearing God’s promise and getting prepared to walk in the manifestation of the promise.
