While promoting Victoria Secret’s new bra “The Incredible,” Chanel Iman told Us Weekly, “I eat to gain. I’m a big believer in having hips, butt and thighs.”

“I’m eating everything from steak to mashed potatoes; people hate me!” Iman, 20, laughed.

But unlike most women, keeping the weight on isn’t easy.

“It’s very difficult for me because I’m naturally skinny. I have to put on a lot of weight and work out to gain muscle. I love curves and being sexy.”

According to CNN, during the event, J. Hud seemed to be glowing stating, “At night I can’t even sleep because I can’t wait to see what I am going to wear the next day.” So cute!

Weight Watchers couldn’t have picked a better spokesperson for their product than Jennifer Hudson, who went from a size 16 to a size 4. Amazing! Her beautiful new figure has made it fun for the singer to get all dolled up for award shows, parties and other events she attends.

Jennifer Hudson went on to say, “It does make it a whole lot easier because now my fittings aren’t that long. The first thing I try on, I’m like, ‘That’s the dress. OK, let’s go.’ And it’s that simple, and it’s fun, and it looks good!”

I absolutely love J.Hudd and think she’s such an inspiration to everyone, not only for her weight loss but also through her music and her journey as an artist and a person as a whole! You go girl!

The usually modestly-dressed singer arrived in a midriff-bearing sheer top and skin-tight pencil skirt. Her hair – once curly, blonde and unruly – was now dark brown, bone straight, and topped off with a blunt bangs.

Dr Barbara Lutz, of the Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group, told The Sun, ‘It appears Leona has had the bridge and tip of her nose thinned.’

But Leona’s spokesman denied the claim, stating, ‘Suggestions she has had cosmetic surgery are total rubbish.’

Leona could be taking a page out of Kim Kardashian’s book, who recently admitted to Harper’s Bazaar that make-up alters the look of her face:

“Some people say, ‘You’ve definitely had your nose done.’ If I had, I would say, ‘Here’s the doctor, he’s amazing, and I’ll make the appointment for you.’ She attributes the nose debate to her favorite makeup trick, contouring. “Someone saw me last night and my nose was so contoured. And they were like, ‘You’ve had your nose done?’ And I was like, ‘No, wait until I wash my face.’”

I went to see “For Colored Girls,” the exciting new film made by the great Tyler Perry.  I love Tyler’s work, most of the time, and I’ve defended him on multiple occasions when he’s come under attack for the nature of his films.  Spike Lee is one particular Tyler Perry hater that I’ve taken issue with, primarily because I think that Tyler does more good than harm in the industry.

But as much as we love Tyler Perry, all voices must be portrayed when responding to his style of film making.  My own voice became amplified after seeing “For Colored Girls,” primarily because the film made me damn near embarrassed to be a black male.  Let’s go down the list shall we?  The black men in the film consisted of a rapist, a thief, an abuser who murdered his own kids, a pimp, and a brother on the down low.  Now, Hill Harper had the distinct honor of being the knight in shining armor, but he was the only ray of goodness in the terrible rainbow that represents the experience of the black woman in America.

I wonder what I would think if I were a non-black person watching this film to get a sense of what happens in the African American community.  Well, first I’d conclude that most black women are well-balanced, fair and emotionally giving to men who simply don’t deserve it.  I would then think that a small percentage of black men have the capacity to do good things, but that most of them will steal from you, deceive you, rape you, cheat on you and do all they can to provide irreversible and unthinkable pain to those who love them the most.  I can just hear one of the white women in the theater saying,  ”Those poor black women.  Why in the world do they remain loyal to those horrible men?”

Perhaps Tyler needs to make a sequel to his film titled, “For Colored Men.”  In the film, we would portray the millions of black men who do the right things and end up being demonized for not doing the right thing in the right way.  Perhaps we might tell the story of the man who doesn’t want to get married, but is pressured into marriage by a community that will force a man to do something that he knows he can’t do very well.  We can also tell the story about the gay black men who go to a church which tells them that if they pray hard enough, the homosexuality will leave their body like the 24-hour flu.  We can cover conversations where some black women repeatedly state that if a man doesn’t make enough money, he doesn’t deserve to have access to her (as she dates the man with a lot of money who breaks her heart).

We could also tell other stories, like that of the good men who pay extra child support to take care of children who are not their own or those who fight to  make a marriage work with a black woman who refuses to hear that she may also play a role in the breakdown of African American families.  Finally, we can tell the story of the millions of men who may not always behave exactly as women ask them to behave, but are good, caring human beings nonetheless.  The moral of the story would be that black men are human too, and that both genders are inclined to make bad choices.

I admit that I’ve seen “For Colored Girls” in the past in the form of other movies.  The films were called “Waiting to Exhale” and “The Women of Brewster Place.”  In both films, there was one story after another of why black men are responsible for the misery of black women.  Also, there was a gathering (you know, a party or something) in which the women worked through the horrors that the men in their lives had caused them.  Perhaps one day, we can get past the notion that black men have a monopoly on demonization and realize that it might be more complicated than that.  Simplistic plots to tell a complex story just don’t always work.  Tyler, as much as I respect him, can be the master of simplistic plots and characters.

I still love Tyler Perry and I still support his role as a film maker.  But with this latest project, he seems to send a message that his films are for colored girls only.  I look forward to the day where black men have a voice, for we have stories to tell too.

Kim Burrell was in her mid-20s when she recorded the seminal gospel album Everlasting Life and made us fall in love with her inimitable voice. Her velvet rasp has always made her sound wise beyond her years and even matronly. But judging from the photo gracing the front of her new website, Kim looks like she’s ready to reclaim her youth. Though respectful and artistic… is that a hint of lace and fishnet I see? And do they really expect us not to notice that artillery of pearls cascading over her more than ample bosom?

She’s Kim Burrell, a figurehead in gospel music and a paragon of virtue. Though she’s a mother, I assure you her son was an immaculate conception. (Shutup. That’s what I’m telling myself and I’ll hear of nothing else.) But this picture… this picture is more couture than it is COGIC. It’s less preacher’s wife and more Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate. Let’s call a spade a spade. This picture is SEXY. Which gives me pause to ask, “Wait a minute… she’s Kim Burrell. Can she DO that?”

When you visit her new website www.backstagewithkim.com, you’re greeted with a fanfare-ious snippet of Kim declaring she’s “living the new life, enjoying the new world.” It sounds like it was snatched right from between two scenes in the movie Dreamgirls. The all-too-brief blurbs on the site promise acting roles, a reality series, an international tour, endorsement deals, and something sure to elicit gasps of shock as well as squeals of elation: her first secular album.

Though I’m not offended, I am surprised. Kim Burrell has always been an artist who’s held a strong stance of taking the gospel to the world and being in it but not of it. Back when she started, most new artists would be clamoring to collaborate with the likes of Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Missy Elliott, and Harry Connick, Jr. However, in Kim’s case, they were clamoring to collaborate with her.

Let’s hope that Kim can also be an exception to the rule with her intentional foray into secular music. In the mid-80′s, Tramaine Hawkins and The Clark Sisters both suffered severe punishment from the gospel community for having similar ambitions. When their respective singles “Fall Down (Spirit of Love)” and “You Brought The Sunshine” caught fire on disco dance floors, their denominations’ jurisdictions promptly called the fire department to have the songs (and the artists) stomped out. For bringing the secular in contact with the sacred, both artists were called to the carpet where they thoroughly caught hell.

Thankfully it’s a new day though. BeBe & CeCe Winans wrote the book on gospel hits with lyrics ambidextrous enough to slide onto R&B playlists with the right sound. It’s been more than a decade since Kirk Franklin & God’s Property blithely crossed that velvet rope into the secular club & radio airplay. Because of these and other gospel martyrs (whose careers almost died trying to take the gospel to folks that actually needed it), Mary Mary are able to minister on camera with skin-tight pants and womanly curves without being tagged with a scarlet letter or burned at the stake.

If you haven’t seen Kim Burrell recently, you may be shocked to discover that she’s shed more than 100 pounds and just beams about it in a new photo that reveals her newly svelte figure. When did this all happen?

In November, Kim Burrell spoke on TBN about being recently informed by her doctor that she had suffered multiple heart attacks while on tour. This forced her to reevaluate her health priorities and the slimmer, radiant Kim Burrell that we see now is the result of her life changes.

For those of you who miss the old Kim Burrell, still have Everlasting Life on repeat 12 years later, and are wondering when she will return, God help you. We may never see a repeat of the old again. But this new Kim Burrell reminds me of the old one and looks like she’s got some new and better things up her sleeve. Or garter belt. Either way, I’ll be buying her album and supporting her endeavors on both sides of the church walls.
