Cincinnati Police Impounding Cars with Oversized Rims

Cincinnati Police officers are attempting to make driving throughout the city a bit safer for everyone with the new decision to impound all vehicles for having rims too large for the car. Incidences of expensive towing situations are already happening across the city as the growing number of citizens begin to be outraged by the nonsense and inconvenience this might present when it comes to safety measures and vehicles.

The news comes as a shock, a disappointment and a concern for most in the city who are already driving with rims (affectionately known in some circles as “dubs”) and have been doing so for decades. Car dealerships and both rim and tire manufacturers at local repair shops are also concerned seeing as though many of them produce cars and replace many with brand new rims on a daily basis.

Passport Fees Increase Beginning July 13

Just as summer time travel begin to flourish, the State Department releases higher fee rates for passports and visas. Effective on July 13th the cost of passport for an adult will increase from $ 100 to $135, including a $25 administrative fee. Children under 16 will pay $105 with the increase, up from $ 85 currently paid.

Passport cards, which are used by Americans traveling by land or sea on trips to the non-U.S. parts of the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico, can anticipate a price increase as well. Adults will dish out $55 opposed to $45; and minors can expect to shell out $40 opposed to $35.

The State Department justify these increases as result of higher fees are stemmed from a study of how much it cost the Bureau of Consular Affairs to provide services and that the new fee scale will cover actual operating expenses for the 301 overseas consular posts, 23 domestic passport agencies and other centers that provide these consular services to U.S. and foreign citizens,” stated an State Department representative.

Meanwhile , the U.S Customs and Border Protection(CPB) is alerting travelers going between Canada and USA to be particularly mindful of these price increase, as Canada Day (on Thursday) and Fourth of July (Sunday) might surprise some tourists.

CPB is suggesting children 16 and under provide their birth certificate when traveling by land or sea to Canada, thus eradicating fees and headaches. But adults on the other hand are required a passport, a passport card, enhanced driver’s license or membership in a “trusted traveler” program for travel.

Kwame Kilpatrick: In Too Deep

Have you heard the latest on Kwame Kilpatrick’s current legal drama? If not, we’re checking things out for ourselves today as the former Detroit mayor makes more headlines this week. Kilpatrick was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months to five years in a state prison for violating his probation, according to reports from inside the courtroom.

Judge David Groner issued the sentence before gasping supporters in attendance, but also acknowledged something a bit deeper in the case against Kilpatrick.

“Your testimony in this court amounted to perjury,” the judge told Kilpatrick. “Most compelling is that you lied to this court, continue to lie, after you pleaded guilty to lying.”

He’s already in enough trouble, but it just seems like Kilpatrick has officially lost his mind. After he failed as mayor a few years ago, cheated on his wife and was forced to admit to the text message/sex scandal with which led to perjury charges and pushed him right out of office, you would think that Kwame Kilpatrick has had enough with the courts.

Maybe not. Even the 99 days he already spent in jail last year after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice charges that stemmed from the scandal should’ve been enough to keep this brother on his toes and help him get back to business. To some, he’s been setup for more public failure and others believe he’s merely up against the unfortunate consequences that take place as a result of such behavior.

The story still unfolds with the ridiculous amount of fees he owes to the city of Detroit, but do you think it’s all fair? Is this a matter of race relations, meaning just because he was at some point considered to be an affluent African American male leader whose image the city is trying to destroy? Or do you believe that because of his actions, should Kilpatrick face the charges, pay the fees and spend more time behind bars? How did it all get to this?

America’s Promise Not to Make You Pay

If you’re packing your bags and planning to hit the beaches, slow down and check out the latest money-saving travel news.

It has just been announced that five US major airlines are set to participate in a new America’s promise, a way to keep fees for carryon luggage to a minimum. The travel news comes from American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways and JetBlue Airways, all of whom promise not to charge vacationers as the peak summer flying season rapidly approaches.

The promise also comes as news despite the fact that some of those same airlines are expected to report first-quarter losses beginning next week. As you might recall, each of the top five airline companies were among those stung by higher fuel prices and the heavy and widespread snowstorms throughout this past winter.
