Should the Reds and Bengals Shelter the Homeless?

This is a story that makes you wonder: “Why can’t this happen here?” A pair of bills making their way through the Florida legislature could have local homeless sleeping on the 50-yard-line of Miami Dolphins’s Stadium or up in the rafter of the Miami Heat Arena.

Florida state senators have introduced bills to demand Florida’s professional sports franchises to either start housing homeless folks in their stadiums and arenas, or give back the hundreds of millions of dollars they have received from the state.

Early reports speculated that Carson Palmer would start in his first game with the Raiders after his trade from the Bengals this week. Then a source close to the situation said that it was unlikely he would play at all.

Reports claim that Palmer’s expectation was to watch from the sidelines so he could learn the Raiders’ offense. However, after Kyle Boller threw three interceptions early in the game, fans were chanting for Palmer to step in after one of those interceptions ended in a touchdown.

Palmer was put in the game, completed a pass on his first play, but then threw three interceptions, one that returned a score.

Was he just unprepared to play since he hadn’t practiced much with the team? Is he just rusty? Or is this a repeat performance of his time with the Bengals?

I guess only time will tell.

Mike Brown: I’m Sorry the Bengals Stink

It looks like Mike Brown is paying attention to what people think of him, and the way he manages the Bengals. In a recent interview, he says that “they have been given a slap on the wrist” by the media. He also says that when the Bengals are winning, none of these criticisms come up. However, when the Bengals are losing, he says he is the object of scrutiny.

Since Mike Brown has taken control of the Cincinnati Bengals football operations in 1991, the team has only had 2 winning football seasons. During both those seasons, they went to the playoffs and have lost in the first round.

Last June, ESPN Magazine ranked the Bengals, “the worst franchise in professional sports“, based on scales of titles won, fan relations, and players.
Most recently, Jim Litke of AP Sports characterized Mike Brown as “a clueless owner running a mom and pop store“.

Adam “Pac Man” Jones Arrested in Cincinnati

We know times have been rough for NFL players all around due to the lock out. But many of the Bengal’s continue to push forward. On several occasions they’ve been seen practicing on UC’s campus.

However Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones decided to utilize his off time at a local bar last night and apparently was doing way too much- and he was locked up. Police reports indicate the corner back is charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.

Pacman has since been released and spoke to Fox19.com. Click here to get his version of what happened.

How Twitter Got The Marvin Lewis News Mixed Up

If you were following the news of Marvin’s contract talks with the Bengals, via Twitter, you might have been confused to what was going on. When it was announced that Marvin’s contract was extended, people had tweeted Marvin had resigned. Of course the news spread like a wildfire, and then people everywhere were tweeting the news of Marvin “resigning”. Even Joe Reedy, the Bengals reporter for the Enquirer, wrote on his Twitter that Marvin “resigned” with the Bengals.

Soon enough, Twitter users got the picture and realized there’s a difference between resigned, and re-signed. When people were tweeting re-signed, people understood that Marvin was staying instead of leaving the Bengals. I’m not trying to be the spelling police, but if you don’t pay attention to it, you change the outcome of the story. For news reporters, it’s especially their responsibility to make the message clear. Most people have been saying Twitter is the new version of the news. I say hold that thought until Twitter has its own spell check. Now for your entertainment here are the people that said resigned and re-signed.

Hamilton County Homeowners Face Higher Taxes For 2011

More bad news on the way for not only Cincinnatians but also Hamilton County Residents. While Hamilton County Commishioners are celebrating reaching a deal on the stadium fund, taxpayers won’t be happy about the details. In a two to one vote, commisioners voted to increase property taxes for next year. Greg Hartmann and David Pepper voted in favor of the increase while Todd Portune voted against it.

So what will you have to pay next year? If you are an owner of a $100,000 home, you will have to pay $42.94 more. If you are an owner of a $200,000 home, you will have to pay $86 more. The Reds and the Bengals will also have to chip in too. The Reds will have to pay $2.2 million while the Bengals have to pay $7.4 million.

Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens Are At It Again

A day after Donovan McNabb signed his contract extension, Terell Owens lashed out at him over Twitter.

“How do u justify a 78 million dollar contract w/this type of performance?” said Owens on the social networking site.

The Redskins had just signed McNabb to a $78 million extension that will keep the super star quarterback in Washington for another five years.

McNabb shot back on ESPN Radio Tuesday saying, “It’s unbelievable how they can comment on what I’m doing over here,” after he brought up the Bengals’ 2-7 record.

The pair were teammates for two years over the 2004-2005 seasons in Philadelphia and have been bickering ever since.

Owens went on his own show, “The T.Ocho Show”, Tuesday night to try and defend his comments.

“Trust me. I’m all happy that he got a $78 million contract. My thing is, how does management – maybe I should have said ‘management’,” he said. “But, how do they justify a $78 million contract when, just two weeks ago, the head coach just benched the guy.”
