Good afternoon saints!

We trust you all made it to a local church this morning. If you didn’t, don’t let the day end without giving thanks to God and somehow growing closer with Jesus. For those of you who slept in today, we hope you were able to catch the newest episode of BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel earlier this morning featuring one of the best female voices in music – both R&B and gospel.

Tiny songstress yet towering vocalist Lil’ Mo hit the stage this morning with a beautiful rendition of the worship hit “Because of Who You Are” and she sang her heart out. With the live house band and background singers, her arrangement was sincere and in many ways, perfect material for what many are hoping to be the basis of a long overdue new project. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that someday we’ll get to hear something more in the inspirational direction from such a gifted vocalist because Lil’ Mo does more than pull it all off exceptionally well.

We also caught up with Lil’ Mo on Twitter today. En route to the first church service for the morning, she told us she was actually able to listen in via telephone from the car as her proud mother checked out her guest appearance on Bobby Jones Gospel. Hopefully, BET will post the clip on their website soon or provide us with a link to re-air it. In the meantime, if you want to drop Lil’ Mo a line or catch her ministry in action, check out the video below from a recent appearance she made singing the same song. Enjoy! Tell us what you think of the songs and clips and what (if any) service you made it to in Cincinnati today by posting below.

We’ve always known Lil’ Mo could sing from her days in R&B providing us with featured vocals on her own albums and also projects with producer/rapper Missy Elliot and hip hop’s Fabolous. Today, she showed us that gospel music and the church is where she belongs. If you didn’t know, this isn’t the first time Lil’ Mo (or other R&B stars) has taken it back to her roots.

Just a few years ago, Lil’ Mo teamed up with a stellar group of young female gospel and R&B singers for both a studio recording and a live cover version (on BET’s Celebration of Gospel) of The Clark Sisters’ hit “Endow Me.” Artists like Lil’ Mo, Coko (of SWV), Faith Evans, Fantasia and Kierra Sheard all raised their voices together in high praise before audiences to execute what is now a rare musical homage to the legendary members of The Clark Sisters – the very group that vocally influenced each of them. Check out the updated studio version of “Endow Me” featuring the ladies (minus Kierra Sheard) below.

Also check out the gallery of a select group of R&B ladies who’ve made the transition back into the church at some point in their illustrious careers. What do you think of the ladies now?
