Gay pride celebrations are supposed to be a time of exciting events tailor made for the LGBT community and its supporters. Occurring in major cities all over the country with plenty of parades, festivals, health awareness summits, live performances and so much more, this past weekend’s gay pride activities fell just short of entirely successful after a 19-year-old man was killed and two others were shot during a street party in the Castro district of San Francisco.

Late Saturday evening, Stephen Powell, 19, was shot fatally in the torso during a personal dispute that also ended in the suspect’s arrest.

Around the same time, in a separate altercation, both a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were shot during the “Pink Saturday” celebration. Both of the secondary victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

With Cincinnati’s own gay pride celebrations literally just days away, what are your thoughts on situations like this concerning our own LGBT communities? Will something like this obscure your plans to participate this coming weekend in any pride-related activities?
