Four days of deliberations have resulted in a hung jury in the outcome of the Ryan Widmer retrial, according to today’s reports.

The jury told the judge late Tuesday afternoon that they were deadlocked on the case and could not reach a decision. Judge Neal Bronson then declared a mistrial, thanked the jurors and told them they were free to go. If you have been watching this story unfold, do you think a third trial will take place soon? For those of you unfamiliar with the case, let’s play catch up real quick.

Widmer is under fire after prosecutors said he killed his wife of four months, Sarah, 24, in their Hamilton Township home just under two years ago on August 11, 2008. Widmer claimed that he merely came upstairs on that day and found his wife unresponsive in their bathtub.

After the news broke and Widmer ended up in court, a different jury found Ryan guilty in the drowning death of his wife in the first trial. Deliberations from that trial took a full 24 hours. Widmer’s conviction was later thrown out by Judge Neal Bronson because of juror misconduct.
