CLOSE

Walnut Hills is about to lose not only one, but both of its YMCA facilities. Late last month, there was a letter sent out to its members, saying that the YMCA will be closing the Williams and the Melrose location on August 22nd.

The Cincinnati NAACP has strongly voiced their opposition to the YMCA’s decision to close these facilities. Cincinnati chapter president, Christopher Smitherman, sent out an email, stating “Health indicators in the African American community continue to get worse and the YMCA Board has decided to close two locations in African American neighborhoods. Many of the health problems that impact the African American community are directly related to the lack of exercise. I urge the YMCA to reconsider their August deadline.”
