Yesterday, it was announced that the Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the Museum Center will be merging together. The purpose of the merger is to consolidate the center’s resources and save money for both parties involved.
A lot of people were worried about the center closing down, including the youth.
12-year-old Maia Thompson, a seventh grader at Mason Middle School, took action by raising money online. She designed a freedom center t-shirt, with her friend, which the profits will go to the Freedom Center. On the T-Shirt, it says “Fan the Flame” and “Be The Spark”. The T-Shirt is available at the Freedom Center’s website.
In addition to creating a t-shirt, Maia also spread awareness of the Freedom Center by making a Youtube video. To hear her impassioned plea, check out the video below.
