John Burlew, the former Hamilton County Judge and attorney, passed away in his sleep Thursday morning.

The Kennedy Heights native spent a great deal of his career in the judicial system. With a law degree from Northern Kentucky University, Burlew specialized in criminal law since 1977. He was a member of commissions such as the Ohio Civil Rights Commission and the Ohio Public Defenders Commission. From 2001-2007 he was elected to Hamilton County Municipal Court.

He was very active in his community. Known as the “King of Ken-Sil Soccer”, Burlew helped organize soccer in the Kennedy Heights area.

He was married to Ann Kathleen, and is the father of Randi and Robin Burlew.

He passed away at 63 years old.
