We love to read stories like this one and here’s why.

An area ministry called Servant’s Heart, located in Louisville, KY, apparently has a unique way of conducting itself. The ministry doesn’t hold a traditional Sunday morning service and really doesn’t even consider itself a church. Instead, the Assemblies of God mission is taking ministry to residents in a low-income community known as Portland.

How do they uphold that mission as one? They take turns leading and participating in various activities throughout the community in an effort to maintain visibility. Teams of members of the church witness during weekly prayer walks, regularly visit a liquor store to share Scripture with customers and hold home Bible studies.

The mission of Servant’s Heart has been formed to also hold clothing and food giveaways and help sponsor free medical clinics for the neighboring cities.

But it doesn’t stop there. Think about what your community needs the most. Next, think about what your church is doing to meet those needs. Lastly, think about where you fit into the equation and start figuring out how you can get involved as well. All it takes is a little bit of information, a little bit of dedication and a little bit of your time. You can afford that right?

BlackChristianNews.com has the full story on other things the organization is doing to bridge the gap between the community and the church right in our own backyard.

Let us know what you think of the story and if you have any plans to help put the church out into the community on a regular basis.
