EAST PRICE HILL – Cincinnati police said Tuesday they are investigating the alleged rape of a 9-year-old Cincinnati Public School student on a school bus last week
This is a very troubling allegation, very disturbing,” said Janet Walsh, a spokeswoman for the school district.
The girl’s mother reported the alleged attack to Cincinnati police on Thursday, two days after the Nov. 3 incident, a police report shows. She told police it occurred between 3:45 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. on a bus for Roberts Paideia Academy, 1702 Grand Ave., East Price Hill.
The police report reveals no information on a suspect, but Walsh said the alleged suspect and victim both attend Roberts.
No arrests have been made.
In addition to the police investigation, school district officials also are looking into the incident, Walsh said. So are Roberts officials and those with the bus company, First Student of downtown Cincinnati, she said.
The school district is working to confirm a chronology of events and all the facts, Walsh said. That includes interviewing all potential witnesses such as students and the bus driver.
“We will all be touching base very, very soon to see what we can substantiate,” she said.
School officials are not certain when the bus driver reported the incident – or to whom, she said.
“There may have been some sort of a gap in when the school got the information,” she said. “There is always an expectation of an allegation of this serious of nature to be reported immediately to the highest levels of the respective organizations.”
The school principal, Vera Brooks, learned of it on Thursday and launched a school investigation, she said. District officials learned of it over the weekend via media reports, she added.
Roberts Paideia Academy is a pre-k through grade 8 CPS magnet school with an enrollment of 717 students, 92 percent of whom come from economically disadvantaged families.
