New York — I am still not sure if I believe what Celestrellas is reporting, but if it’s true, superstar music group Aventura is no more. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see Max, Romeo, Henry and Lenny go their separate ways (breakup rumors have been flying for years), it would still be a major blow to bachata fans.

According to the gossip site, Romeo broke the news to AOL Music a few days after the group’s aptly-titled “The Last” tour wrapped up in Puerto Rico. The vibrant frontman has been known to spew out controversial comments that don’t always come true, but the facts do seem to support this latest rumor.

Henry plans to release a solo album next February; Max has been busy shepherding new acts, such as El Soprano (leading to speculations that he’s planning a record label launch with Lenny); and Romeo announced his own solo album at the same time that he reportedly dropped news about the split.

Netherlands— The International Criminal Court’s prosecutor named a former Kenyan Cabinet minister and five others on Wednesday as the alleged orchestrators of postelection violence in 2007 that left more than 1,000 people dead.

Luis Moreno Ocampo wants judges to charge six Kenyan leaders, including the son of the country’s founding father, with crimes against humanity including murder, rape and tortue. But it is the case against former higher education minister William Ruto that could cause the most violent backlash in Kenya.

Kenya’s police commissioner, Mathew K. Iteere warned that “criminal elements” were looking to use Moreno-Ocampo’s announcement as an opportunity break the law and vowed to crack down on any outbreaks of violence.

Moreno-Ocampo alleged that Ruto began plotting attacks on supporters of President Mwai Kibaki a year before the election and worked together with Minister for Industrialization, Henry Kosgey and radio broadcaster Joshua Sang to coordinate a campaign of killing and forced deportations in the Rift Valley.

In a separate case, Moreno-Ocampo charged Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta — son of Kenyan independence hero and founding president Jomo Kenyatta — alongside Cabinet secretary Francis Muthaura and former police commissioner Maj. Gen. Mohammed Hussein Ali with murder, deportation, persecution, rape and inhumane acts allegedly committed in retaliation against supporters of Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Deadly clashes erupted after Kenya’s disputed 2007 presidential election, including indiscriminate bow and arrow, machete and gunfire attacks that killed more than 1,000.

“These six are the persons most responsible according to our evidence,” Moreno Ocampo told reporters in The Hague. He asked judges to confirm the charges and order the six suspects to turn themselves in to the war crimes tribunal.

Judges will study the prosecutor’s evidence and likely make their decision early next year.

In Kenya, President Mwai Kibaki said the government had intensified security around the country to protect lives and property of all citizens. Kibaki also said the government is committed to establishign a local tribunal to deal with post-election violence, an idea that has resurfaced only this week as the Moreno Ocampo announcement lommed.

“As a nation we must also focus on the need for national healing and reconciliation. This is paramount as we move forward on the path of national peace and unity,” the Kibaki statement said. “I appeal to Kenyans to remain calm. The government will remain vigilant and ensure that the rights of its citizens and the dignity of the nation are upheld.”

Moreno Ocampo said he expects the suspects to surrender voluntarily. He also asked them to not contact each other, to not try to interfere with the investigation or trial, or commit new crimes.

The clashes erupted along tribal lines following an announcement that Kibaki — a Kikuyu — had won a vote that opponents said was rigged. A bloodbath was stopped only after former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan mediated a peace agreement that created a coalition government in which Odinga was appointed prime minister.

Kenya attempted to set up a tribunal but parliament shut it down and no major figure has ever faced justice. The ICC took over the case after the failure to prosecute suspects in Kenya.

The clashes severely damaged Kenya’s reputation. The East African country has the region’s largest economy and has long been regarded as a haven of stability in a region roiled by war.

London – Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore said he has posted $20,000 to help jailed Wikileaks founder Julian Assange make bail in Sweden.

“Yesterday, in the Westminster Magistrates Court in London, the lawyers for WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange presented to the judge a document from me stating that I have put up $20,000 of my own money to help bail Mr. Assange out of jail,” Moore said in a statement posted online.

Filmmakers Ken Loach and John Pilger and writer Jemima Kahn joined Moore in the contributing to Assange’s bail fund, Moore said.

Moore also offered “the assistance of my website, my servers, my domain names and anything else I can do to keep WikiLeaks alive and thriving.”

Assange was scheduled to appear in a London court Tuesday seeking to fight his extradition to Sweden in a sex-crimes investigation and trying to secure bail after being held for a week in a British prison cell.

Moore addressed the rape charges filed against Assange.

“For those of you who think it’s wrong to support Julian Assange because of the sexual assault allegations he’s being held for, all I ask is that you not be naive about how the government works when it decides to go after its prey. Please — never, ever believe the ‘official story,’” Moore said in the statement.

LONDON — After a week in detention facing possible extradition, Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks antisecrecy group, was ordered released on $310,000 bail by a court on Tuesday as he challenges a Swedish prosecutor’s demand that he return to Stockholm for questioning about alleged sex offenses.

However, Mr. Assange remained in custody pending a hearing on an appeal by the prosecutor, which would take place within the next 48 hours.

In granting bail, Judge Howard Riddle ordered that Mr. Assange appear again in court on Jan. 11. He also said that between then and now he must reside at Ellingham Hall, a Georgian mansion in Bungay, in eastern England, owned by Vaughan Smith, the founder of a club for journalists. Mr. Assange must spend every night at the mansion and will be electronically tagged so the police can track his movements, the judge said.

Haiti — Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin urged Americans not to forget Haiti yesterday, as she wrapped up a weekend visit to the embattled nation in support of a Christian group assisting in the country’s ongoing cholera epidemic and earthquake reconstruction. The question that made its way around the black blogs and magazines last week when Palin announced the trip was more or less does Palin really care about black people, or is she going to Haiti with an ulterior motive?

I think it is a question worth exploring as we consider that Sarah Palin, who hails from Alaska, has had very little interaction with African-Americans in her lifetime. Palin who has been very highly critical of the first lady and President Obama in her latest book, appears to be preparing for a 2012 presidential run. Whether or not she can win a GOP primary remains to be seen, but I for one have no doubt she is going to run.

Yet, we all know that if she is to truly have a shot at becoming president of the United States she must appeal to a broader swath of Americans beyond the Tea Party and conservatives who adore her. Perhaps I am cynical, but if I were considering running against the nation’s first black president in 2012, I would darn sure make clear to my political team that I need more events with people of color surrounding me and more photo-ops showing my concern for the less fortunate, down-trodden and disenfranchised among us.
