This morning we’re saying congratulations to gospel music’s reigning chart-topper Marvin Sapp who won the “Best Gospel Artist” award at the 2010 BET Awards yesterday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.

Sapp’s award wasn’t televised, but the appearance was showcased alongside a significant gospel presence at this year’s 10th anniversary celebration of the BET Awards.

Marvin Sapp joined hit-maker Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell, Fred Hammond, Karen Clark Sheard and Yolanda Adams for a performance of “Are You Listening?” – the song that launched the gospel music industry’s Haiti relief initiative with a rare musical gathering of other great voices in gospel.

If you were able to check out the rest of the show, you might also remember Kim Burrell who made a stunning guest spot during a medley of hits by R&B/soul singer Alicia Keys. What did you guys think of that unexpected collaboration? Was there anything else in the show that stood out to each of you the most? Tell us what you thought of the lineup of gospel performers as well as the list of nominees who were also in the running for the Best Gospel category. Do you agree with the results?

In other music news, Marvin Sapp’s “The Best in Me” just entered it’s fourteenth consecutive week at the top spot on the radio charts in gospel music. Congratulations to Marvin Sapp again on his longevity on the charts, too.
