Wednesday’s news conference with Club Ritz unveiled full details of the security upgrade the nightclub has set into motion in the aftermath of the nightclub’s starring role in the scene of the murder of Dexter Burroughs last week. The nightclub, which has long been caught up in violence before, after and during previous events, has continued to ride the waves of controversy as the new security measures were being setup.

But this week, we heard the following hardcore details about the new systems intended to protect patrons and help keep Club Ritz in the clear. First off, the club is now an establishment that only holds private events, which means all activity within the building will be deemed “members only.” Membership is free, IDs will be scanned and a photos will be taken of each member. Is that part of the equation even necessary? From there, members will receive special admission cards to be used as entry passes for future events.

A video camera that captures an image of each person who passes through the full-body metal detector has been installed and it reports the metal and where the object is located on an individual to avoid concealed weapons, like the one used on Burroughs, from entering the club.

Nightclub owner Andrew Williams also stated that the Ritz already uses eight cameras, but of course we know most of those focus on the outside of the building (and have missed quite a few violent incidences). Williams claims an additional set of up to eight cameras will be installed by the weekend events as the city celebrates the Memorial Day weekend activities.
