Earlier this month, our ears perked up from the sound of someone attempting a major musical comeback as famed prophetess turned recording artist, Juanita Bynum released her latest gospel and musical effort More Passion (now available on Flow Records). The new album is a follow-up, an extension of Bynum’s brand of worship-based mood music found on previous releases such as 2006’s chart-topper A Piece of My Passion. The new album features production from singer/songwriter Myron Williams and allows Bynum’s newly found melodic voice to evangelize through her music and provide hope to broken spirits and damaged hearts.

Billed as music serving as “the calm in the midst of personal storms,” More Passion picks up where Bynum and Williams left off. The first single “You’ll Never Thirst” is filled with heartfelt emotion as it ministers to the soul and continues the beautiful journey both singer and primary producer embarked upon some years ago.

As many of us already know, Juanita Bynum officially answered her calling in 1990 when she became a preacher. From there, she began touring the country and abroad. While preaching the word of God and operating under a unique prophetic anointing, Bynum eventually formed the world-renowned Juanita Bynum Ministries through a variety of women’s conferences and prayer gatherings successfully launched in nearly all four corners of the world.

Her weekly presence on TBN (the Trinity Broadcasting Network) and her involvement with tons of other highly sought after preachers, teachers and ministries allowed her to quite quickly dominate the televangelism scene all at once. When she realised she could reach out to more people through music, Bynum decided it was time to move from the pulpit to the recording studio. She has released a number of gospel albums commencing with Morning Glory Vol. 1 in 1999.

Now, of course, you can’t say her name nowadays without mentioning Bynum’s unfortunate (and rather rapid) demise and public embarrassment as she endured a very nasty domestic violence dispute and ultimate divorce from her ex-husband, Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III. All of that drama and more occurred right before the very eyes of the church – something many of the same women she’d been preaching to for years had experienced themselves.

Now separated after their highly publicized six-year marriage, both Bynum and Weeks have moved on to tend to other projects. (Weeks even remarried recently which caused yet another uproar involving he and his ex-wife.) If you were sleeping under a rock and missed the mess that was the Bynum/Weeks divorce, here’s video footage to sum it all up for you. Gives me the shutters just reminiscing back on all that went down.

Moving on. In other related news, Bynum, 51, has reportedly signed a joint agreement that includes both a new recording contract and a management deal with Mathew Knowles and Music World Entertainment. Yes, you heard me right, Bynum has signed with Beyonce’s daddy and ‘nem. This multi-dimensional deal sees her releasing another effort later this year titled The Diary of Juanita Bynum. The new project will appear on her new venture Son Flower Records, in partnership with Knowles’ Spirit Rising label. What strikes me as odd is that the new album isn’t even a month in rotation on our playlists and already Juanita Bynum is making headlines for the next one. I understand expanding your horizons and diversifying your portfolio, but this comeback could backfire if she’s not careful. I won’t put too much into it, but can somebody tell me where artists like the barely a one-hit wonder female gospel group Ramiyah are today? Yeah, see, had I not posted this photo below you still wouldn’t remember who they are.

Anyways, now that I’m on my soapbox, how about we take a moment to examine the management/client relationship Papa Knowles had with former Destiny Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams – both whom dropped Mathew as their manager in the last year and moved on to become much more successful than before after a long-time public opinion formed that he was only about making and hoarding money for his own child, superstar Beyonce. And from an observational standpoint, doesn’t it still seem strange (or strategic) that even his other baby girl Solange didn’t even get the attention she deserved from her father/manager? So what makes Ms. Bynum think is going to happen to her? Sorry, but it sounds like drama is right around the corner.

What do you guys think? Post your comments in the comments section below and tell us if you plan on buying either of the new releases from Juanita Bynum or if you think the new agreement between Bynum and Knowles will work out.
