Gospel Dream winner and powerful female vocalist Benita Washington is set to return to the scene with her newest effort entitled The Word Remains, currently scheduled for a worldwide release on June 29, 2010. You’ll remember this incredible vocalist who drew in millions of fans and supporters during her tenure on the Gospel Dream singing competition on the Gospel Music Channel.

Her previous debut and sophomore albums also featured hits such as “The Lord is Good”, a worshipper’s point of view describing the goodness of God and inviting the listener in for a season of praise, and the new music we’re already hearing moves us further into the presence of God.

Now signed with Shanachie Entertainment, the new home of fellow gospel/inspirational artists like Ted Winn, Vicki Yohe, and Kim Burrell, Washington has also tapped into the music expertise of Daniel Weatherspoon to produce the effort with Virgil Straford as musical director. Weatherspoon has written and produced multiple stellar projects including music for artists like Cincinnati’s own Darwin Hobbs, fellow producer/songwriter Donald Lawrence and the legendary Karen Clark Sheard. Just think back to that sweet keyboard solo on “Jesus is a Love Song” from Sheard’s Finally Karen (1997) and you’ll know who he is.

We’re anticipating great things for Benita Washington’s next phase of her career. The 2003 winner of Gospel Dream, who has also sung background for some our favorites including CeCe Winans, Prophetess Juanita Bynum and former contemporary gospel ensemble Anointed, will surely be one to watch this year.

Tell us what you think of Benita Washington’s previous releases. Are you anticipating hearing the new music this summer?
