Local firefighters received a rude awakening this morning as a three-story commercial building in Over-the-Rhine went up in flames hours before the sunrise today. The fire in the building, located in the 1400 block of Vine Street, reportedly began around 3:30 AM. The fire has just been subdued nearly four hours after it began.

Firefighters were quickly sent to seize the fire, but upon there arrival, they were ordered to evacuate for their safety and fight the blaze only defensively. It is believed that the fire began in the neighborhood staple Smitty’s Men’s Store.

The clothing store’s merchandise was housed in the first floor of the building alongside a nearby restaurant, which fueled the fire according to reporters at WCPO.com.

At this time, no injuries have been reported. Two people had to be rescued from the third floor of another building. The fire swept through a total of four buildings – two of which are completely destroyed. Several other nearby properties and businesses are also reporting damages this morning.
