Police arrested a suspected heroin dealer Thursday afternoon and are looking for another downtown after an incident that started in Newport.
Undercover officers attempted to arrest three people on drug charges around 2 p.m. in the 200 block of Columbia Street, and police said they fled in a car.
Police pursued the car across the Taylor-Southgate Bridge into Cincinnati, and they requested assistance from officers there.
The suspects stopped their car in the 400 block of Walnut Street after driving northbound onto the southbound, one-way street.
All three suspects attempted to flee the car on foot, police said, and two people were taken into custody immediately.
The car’s driver managed to elude capture, and police said he remains at large.
Police arrested 24-year-old Kevin Jett on heroin trafficking charges, and the arrest warrant noted a prior conviction on the same charge last year in Hamilton County.
The driver, who police are trying to identify, was described as a black man in his early 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds with short black hair and wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt and dark-colored pants.
He is wanted by police on drug trafficking and fleeing charges.
The second passenger has not been charged in the incident, which remains under investigation.
