Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is continuing to grow and is talking about adding 500 jobs.

It currently employs about 12,300 people after 480 were added last year and had a total revenue of around $1.6 billion, which is up 7 percent from the previous year. Chief Financial Officer Scott Hamlin says that another 500 will be added before the end of the current year.

“We’re not just recycling jobs through the economy,” Hamlin said. “We’re bringing those people in.”

Instead of continuing to add new buildings, the hospital plans to cut $50 million in non-salary costs during the next five years, which will increase utilization of current buildings by 20 percent and reduce per-patient cost by 5 percent.

Children’s is consistantly one of the top ranked children’s hospitals in the country, including being one of eight on the Honor Roll from the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” edition.

They only continue to get better as well, focusing hard on keeping their patients happy and not having to wait long for appointments.

“Our goal is that nobody waits more than 10 days for an appointment,” said Hamlin.
