Early Monday Republicans on the Hamilton County Board of Elections vetoed an idea by the Democrats to allow early voting at board offices on two different Sundays between now and the November 2nd election.

Tim Burke’s motion to allow Sunday voting would have left it up to the board staff to decide which two Sunday’s voting would take place.  However the Board of Elections voted to a 2-2 tie which will now go to Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to cast the tie-breaking vote.  Burke also commented that, “Nearly every other urban county in the state offers this.”

A report given by Sally Krisel, director of the board of elections, said that if the board were to open up for these two Sundays, then it would cost the county an additional $6,651.  Alex Triantafilou, chairman of the board of elections, who also objected to Burke’s plan was quoted as saying, “Our staff works so hard already, they need a day to catch up.”

As of right now, the board of elections office (located at 824 Broadway in downtown) will be open every Saturday beginning October 2nd from 8 a.m. until noon for early voting, and also beginning on October 18th they will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  These are all, of course, in addition to their normal operating hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
