The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has released a bone-chilling digital PSA reenacting the night that 17-year-old Travyon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman in efforts to bring an end to racist and controversial ‘Stand-Your-Ground’ laws.

Using painful details from the case, including actual audio from the 911 calls during which Trayvon Martin can be heard begging for his life, the actor portraying Zimmerman is seen running in the rain, halting when he sees the frightened teenager, then slowly reaching for his gun.

After  cutting to residents of the apartment complex that represents the Retreat at Twin Lakes, including a woman peeking from blinds as she hears the fatal gun shot, the scene  shifts to the actor portraying Trayvon laying lifeless on the wet ground. The camera then slowly pans out to show people in hoodies dead on the ground as the names of the more than 20 states that currently have ‘Stand-Your-Ground’ laws flash on the screen.

“‘Stand Your Ground’ laws have essentially legalized murder. With this PSA, we hope to add to the nationwide push to repeal these immoral laws,” said CSGV Communications Director Ladd Everitt.

Watch the the heart-breaking PSA below:

As previously reported by NewsOneWill Weatherford, the speaker of Florida’s House of Representatives, announced that law makers would review the racist and controversial laws in the fall, which marks the largest victory to date for the bold and courageous ‘Dream Defenders.’

“Across Florida, representatives are receiving calls, letters, visits and emails from constituents with diverse opinions on ‘Stand Your Ground,’” Weatherford said. “Passions are high, but every person has the right to express their views on this matter of great importance.”

“Our evaluation of its (the law’s) effectiveness should be guided by objective information, not by political expediency,” Weatherford wrote in an op-ed for the Tampa Tribune.

“Does the law keep the innocent safer? Is it being applied fairly? Are there ways we can make this law clearer and more understandable?”

Phillip Agnew, executive director of the Dream Defenders, acknowledged the milestone:

“It’s a critical first step.”

In addition to the Dream Defenders, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, President Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Rev. Jesse Jackson, MSNBC’s PoliticsNation host Rev. Al Sharpton, Harry Belafonte and a host of other celebrities and public figures have called for a review of the laws.

In a speech at the National Urban League convention in Philadelphia last month, Sybrina Fulton issued a call to action against ‘Stand-Your-Ground’ laws, telling the audience that she believes God is using her and her family to make a difference.

“My message to you is please use my story, please use my tragedy, please use my broken heart to say to yourself, `We cannot let this happen to anybody else’s child,’” she told the audience.

While conservative websites are claiming that Black suspects benefit from ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, they are attempting to manipulate broad data to their political advantage. In fact, nearly four-in-five killings of Black people where ‘Stand Your Ground’ has been invoked resulted in the killer being freed.
