George Zimmerman has just been found NOT GUILTY.

UPDATE 11:07 P.M., July 13: Statement By Rev. Al Sharpton On George Zimmerman Acquittal

Saturday, July 13, 2013 (New York, NY) “The acquittal of George Zimmerman is a slap in the face to the American people but it is only the first round in the pursuit of justice. We intend to ask the Department of Justice to move forward as they did in the Rodney King case and we will closely monitor the civil case against Mr. Zimmerman. I will convene an emergency call with preachers tonight to discuss next steps. And intend to head to Florida in the next few days.”

Rev. Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network and MSNBC Host

A jury of six women returned the verdict moments ago in a Florida courtroom, acquitting Zimmerman of 2nd degree murder, as well as the lesser charge of manslaughter, in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. If convicted, Zimmerman had faced up to life in prison. The not guilty verdict means the jury of found Zimmerman acted in self-defense — in other words, he justifiably used deadly force and reasonably believed that such force was necessary to prevent either his own death or great bodily harm to himself.
