History was made from 128,000 feet, above the earth, yesterday.

Felix Baumgartner landed safely on Earth after a 24-mile jump from the stratosphere. During his free fall, he skydived at a record speed of 833.9 M.P.H. That amounts to a Mach speed of 1.24, which is faster than the speed of sound.

The skydive lasted nine minutes, as he landed safely in Roswell, New Mexico.

Baumgartner, also known as “Fearless Felix”, traveled up in a pressurized capsule carried by a 55-story ultra-thin helium balloon.
