We’re in the heat of election season. Before I go forward, I want to remind everyone please make sure you’re registered to vote before your state’s registration deadline.

This week, i received a postcard from the Hamilton County board of elections. The postcard informed me of what my precinct is, where my polling location is, and the districts that my state and congressional officials represent.

I was perplexed when I read which congressional and state district I was in. The postcard read that I was in the 31st congressional district, the 9th Ohio house district, and the 2nd Ohio senate district.

The second i looked at this, I already knew that this was wrong. They rearranged the numbers on this card. I already knew that I was in the 2nd congressional district (Ohio doesn’t even have 31 congressional districts). I recently found out my Ohio house district is 31, and I knew my Ohio senate district is 9.

I found out i’m not the only one who experienced this issue. Other news sources reported that more than 200,000 people in Hamilton County experienced the same issue.

The postcard was right about my polling location, I’ll give them that. But after noticing the rearranging of the districts i was located in, I was awfully skeptical of whether they were right about my location.

Maybe I’m overreacting, but this is an important election. I believe everyone, in this nation, has the right to make sure their voices are heard. We DO NOT need to experience another debacle like the 2010 Juvenile Court Judge decision. We DO NOT need to experience the voting problems we faced in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

There’s nothing wrong with double checking your voting information. Make sure your registration is correct, and up date. Here are some websites and phone numbers where you can double check your information.
