If you saw hundreds of people in hoodies, downtown yesterday, don’t be alarmed.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Hamilton County Library and marched to Fountain Square to protest the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. The event was hosted by Occupy The Hood.
“I’m here to support peace and justice for Trayvon Martin because, even though it happened in Florida, we’re all connected when it comes to the cause of justice,” said Derrick Blassingame, who said he was not part of any group or organization represented at the rally.
By using Facebook and Twitter to get the word out on the event, about 1,500 people showed up to support Trayvon Martin. To show solidarity with Martin’s family, demonstrators came out in hooded sweatshirts and carried Skittles like Trayvon did.
