An unfortunate realization came down yesterday to the Cincinnati public. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center needs to raise $1.5 million in 2012 in order to keep its doors open. The building is placed on the riverfront, which has been a landmark in the movement of slaves traveling from the south to northern states in hopes of freedom. The NURFC has already cut their budget and staff tremendously since its debut in 2005. CEO Ken Robinson and Co-Chairman of the Board Damon Lynch Jr. stopped by The Buzz studios to talk about the state of the NURFC moving forward:
Many would argue that the NURFC is now a staple of the city we cannot afford to lose. It tackles a difficult reality of american history that we should not soon bury, nor forget. The center is grounds for teaching, learning, and healing. What will be the its fate end 2012? What is your take on the NURFC struggle to stay open? Share your thoughts with us below.
