Need to get rid of that old refrigerator in your house? It’ll not only cost you extra, but you’ll also have to submit a background check?

That’s what councilman Charlie Winburn said when talking with Lincoln Ware yesterday. While on the phone he also told Lincoln that if you’re a dealer, you’ll also need to apply for a license. He dismissed the idea, and talked about how this won’t solve the problem. He said,

This law will not stop scrap metal theft. All of this will do is send these thieves over to Norwood and Kentucky and sell it.

He summarized the ordinance proposal as a “feel-good ordinance”

To hear the rest of Winburn’s phone call, listen to the audio below.

So what do you think? Will this ordinance solve the problem of copper theft in Cincinnati? Should this be a state government issue? Let us know your thoughts by posting your comments below.
