Every woman has a story to tell. On 1230am WDBZ The Buzz we are celebrating the women of our community with a new feature: Women and Their Stories.

Tuesday we sat down with the incomparable Janaya Trotter. Yesterday Arnice Smith came to our studio to share her life story, and what an awesome and encouraging one it was. Let us first mention that Arnice Smith is the very first black Ohioan to be given the New York Times Librarian of the Year Award! Much congratulations to her, as she has been a Cincinnati Public librarian and mentor for 30 years. She has served many years at the College Hill branch.

Conversation led us to her very interesting discovery of a passion of reading, while it took her until the 4th grade to learn how to read. Listen to this portion of the interview where Arnice describes her intial struggle endured, and how it changed her life forever:
