Controversy has taken hold of an Atlanta elementary school when students received a math worksheet that had examples of slavery in the word problems.

Gwinnett County parents and activists have already begun voicing their disbelief, and are unwillingness to allow such learning practices to go unaddressed. The worksheets included problems such as: “Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?” and “If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in 1 week?” School district officials said the principal at Beaver Ridge Elementary School will work closely with the teachers to create appropriate lessons, as well as offer more opportunity for staff development.
