Since council was sworn in, they have debated over topics such as spending 4.4 million dollars to convert City Hall’s courtyard into a wedding atrium. Smitherman explains in a press release,
“It is apples to apples to suggest that the $4.4 million could be used to fix our streets. This project came before council with no explanation on how tax payers would benefit. This project is complete nonsense and is an example of why Cincinnati NAACP members remain concerned that City Hall does not have its priorities together.”
This week, council voted seven to two to raise water rates by 8%. The two “nay” votes were from Winburn and Smitherman.
