More drama unfolded this week between the NBA owners and players during their collective bargaining negotions. On Tuesday, NBA commissioner David Stern and the owners made an offer to the players union on how basketball-related income would be distributed. The owners claimed the offer was split 50-50, but the players rejected the offer, disagreeing with the numbers.
But is the writing already on the wall that the season is over? NBA players have already made deals to play overseas. Some players are so desperate to play ball, San Antonio’s Tony Parker will be playing in France for only $2,000 a month. As for other players like Delonte West, they’re struggling to get by, taking ordinary jobs, like moving furniture, to pay the bills.
Some players aren’t even playing basketball at all. Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves was in a professional sand volleyball league. Blake Griffin was an intern for the comedy website, funnyordie.com.
There have been reports that if collective bargaining negotiations aren’t settled soon, the first two weeks of the season will be cancelled as well.
